Commercial Solar Panels Case Study 10: Fanshawe Community Centre

Fanshawe Community Centre’s Solar Power Transformation in 2024/2025

Nestled in the heart of Dagenham, Essex, the Fanshawe Community Centre has long been a hub for local activities and events. With a commitment to sustainability and reducing their carbon footprint, the centre embarked on a transformative journey to harness the power of the sun. In collaboration with NxtGen Energy, the centre set out to install a state-of-the-art commercial solar panel system that would not only significantly reduce their energy costs but also pave the way for a greener future for the centre & for the UK as we head towards Net Zero.

Commercial Solar Project Overview

The Fanshawe Community Centre project featured:

Location: Barnmead Road, Dagenham, Essex, RM9 5DX

Solar System Size: 22,000KW

Key Components Installed

  • Solar Panels: 40 x JA Solar Panels 550W
  • Power Optimisers: 40 x SolarEdge S500
  • Inverter: 1 x SolarEdge 20,000W 3-phase
  • Mounting System: Vander Valk Flat Roof Mounting System

Assessment and Design

The commercial solar installation began with a thorough assessment of the centre’s energy needs and available roof space. The solar energy experts at NxtGen Energy meticulously designed the commercial solar panels system to maximize efficiency and energy output. By analysing the centre’s current energy consumption patterns and by evaluating the structural integrity of the roof, they developed a tailored commercial solar system solution that would deliver optimal performance.

Installation Process

The installation process was carried out with precision and care. The 40 high-efficiency JA Solar Panels, each capable of producing 550W, were selected for their durability and performance. These commercial solar panels were paired with 40 SolarEdge S500 power optimisers, ensuring each solar panel operated at its peak efficiency and minimized energy losses due to shading or mismatched panels.

To convert the generated DC (direct current) power into usable AC (alternating current) power, a robust SolarEdge 20,000W 3-phase solar inverter was installed. This inverter not only provided high conversion efficiency but also allowed for advanced monitoring and management of the solar system. The Vander Valk flat roof mounting system was chosen for its ease of installation and compatibility with the existing roof structure, providing a secure and stable foundation for the panels.

Benefits and Impact

The results of the commercial solar installation were impressive. The Fanshawe Community Centre now enjoys substantial savings on their energy bills, thanks to the 22,000KW commercial solar panel system. The Fanshawe Community Centre takes pride in their contribution to environmental sustainability in the local area and serves as a shining example for other community centres and businesses looking to make a positive impact on the environment.

Future Outlook

With the success of this installation, the Fanshawe Community Centre is exploring additional ways to enhance their sustainability efforts. They are considering the possibility of expanding their commercial solar panel system to accommodate future energy needs and further reduce their reliance on non-renewable energy sources.
